hi guys i picked up my mk3 mondeo tonight and noticed my passenger door speaker not working, it has a hands free kit fitted but i can't see any tampering done with the speaker wires behind the dash. anyone know where to start with something like this?

Check the wiring on the speaker to make sure its secure, and trace the wires as far back as you can to check the state of it, and in particular look for breakages and shorts. If you don't find any take the speaker out and test it with another source, like the speaker wires on the other side. Of course, you could do it the other way around and test the speaker first, as its possible a previous owner blew it by having the volume too loud.
Handfree kits usually have their own speakers, and don't hook up into the standard speaker system.
Take the doorcard off and have a look at the connection, if that doesn't solve it then replace the speaker

I would say check the twisty wiring loom connectors between the chassis and door before taking anything apart.
Possibly not ones that are factory fitted, but retro-fit ones are almost always like that!
I know about 5 people with retro kits including myself and they all go via the headunit and speakers.
Some of my friends have stock and others aftermarket head units.
I have a parrot kit and it just plugged between the loom and head unit. Quite easy to fit.

Ah...that'll be due to being Nokia and therefore crap.
As for the OP, check the speaker if it's not at the HU, but also as Tesla said, make sure that there isn't loads of wear on the wires between the door and the car itself.

Nokia car kits are some of the best in the business?
It's very easy to route the audio from a Nokia kit through the stereo speakers, you just need a Telemute lead. Makes installation very simple too as it can usually give you switched and constant ignition, so it's literally plug in and go.

My friend has loads of issues with his Nokia car kit, unsure if it's his newer nokia phone though.
A lot of the time when I call him and he's in the car I can hear myself, the echo mute (feedback) thing just doesn't seem to work.

Is he using a non-Nokia phone with it? The older kits (the CK-7W mainly) don't have echo cancellation in the kit, because Nokia are backwards and put it in the phone instead. If I try and use my iPhone with the CK-7W in my mum's car it just echoes. Fine with the CK-15W in my car though.
