Hi there,

I have a 2007 golf 1.4, the rear door handle doesn't seem to be working and the child lock is enabled. I have been looking online and have struggled to find an answer for the mk6 golf.

Tried so far- Standing there for about 5-10 minutes locking and unlocking the car while trying the handle
tried putting something down the side of the handle but cant seem to fit out down like suggested on mark 4/5 golfs
Tried hitting the handle bit where your thumb would be and just below there with a rubber mallet, didnt do this to hard as i don't want to damge the paint work.

Still no joy.

the handle feels different from the other side which works so i am guessing the cables not attached to the catch behind.

Is it frozen shut?

Take it to the dealer- surely it's still under warranty?

Or maybe you have to press the unlock button twice on your fob.

-edit just seen its 2007- you have a mk 5!

I'd wager the deadlock has failed.

If it is that and you can get the door card off you should be able to disengage it, else you're looking at cutting a hole in the door card...

The handle on the passanger door of my passat stops working the odd time. Feels very light when you try to open it like the cable or what ever mechanism inside the handle has stuck. Opening it from the inside and slamming it normally works.

Just noticed your child lock is engaged so I suppose this wont help, sorry.

We used to get this all the time on our Polo. The handle would feel like it had no resistance at all. Once the mechanism had thawed out it would be fine but this would often require me to sit outside with a hair dryer plugged into an extension lead :o

What made it worse on ours was having no central locking and parking against the wall so the drivers door was the only option for getting in!

I think you can get the door card off but you have to snap some bits in doing so.

Might well be the problem, we've not had any problems with it until the weather has got worse and the guys who had it before us didnt have kids so didnt use the rear doors. Will try the hair dryer tomorrow!

My passat did the same cut a tennis ball in half
Place half of it below the window near the lock and hit it.

It does work :-)

Nice one, will grab a tennis ball tomorrow and try that, people will wonder what i am doing in the front street with a tennis ball and mallet ! :)
