My GF has a MK6 escort, the orange light on the dash has in the last few days, and will not go away.

I've checked the catches on all doors and the seem to be ok, ive pushed them in with my fingers and the light is staying on, personally i wouldnt worry about it, but with her car she needs it to be perfect or she starts panicing!

Would anyone have any ideas where to start looking to solve this problem?

Secondly when she opens the boot with the key if the car is locked the alarm goes off, any ideas on how to solve this?

which one would it be?

In the manuel is says door waning light - this warns you doors may be open.
I've just changed the switch for the leccy windows as they wouldnt open, never changed a fuse, Got any diagrams?

Thanks for the reply..

As for the alarm going off when the boot is opened before unlocking the car - this is possibly down to a loose connection in the boot. Usually, there is a wire that goes to the boot lock that disables the alarm as the boot is opened to stop it going off if the alarm is activated. If this has become disconnected then opening the boot will not deactivate the alarm causing it to go off

The location of the fuses varies between cars - look in your manual for this. Usually it's to the right and slightly down from the steering wheel. The manual should state what fuse is what or there might be a sticker in the fuse box stating this

Checked all doors, but from reading on the net, i think i may need to check the bonet aswell.

@ ajgoodfellow - where would this wire be, how would i access it?

I've found the fusebox, its in the drivers footwell, checked the manual and the box, no diagrams, which i find strange, i'll go outside and have another look now,

Thankyou for all your replys.

Just seen a fuse diagram, and there isnt one for the door's warning light.

IT could be the bonnet, as it has a sensor, i will check that when someone else comes home.

Any other ideas if all else fails?

There usually is a plastic cover over the boot catch. This should unclip and the wire should be underneath this - at least that was where it was on my Dad's TF

The "door open" switch is located on the door locking module. It took me a little while to find mine, most people assume the door open switch is attached to the door pins.

I'll have a look at the boot when its light again, and ideas on this Door warning light?

Try my last post, the door warning light switches are located behind the door cards. If you locate them then put a DMM set to continuity mode across the switch and test for continuity when the door is open (or vice versa). If you have a Haynes manual you may be able to trace each door switch to the PATS box which will save you removing all of the door cards.
