seems to place to post this

the last few nights my internet has been geting very slow at first i thought i was geting slowed by o2 but after a bit of poking around i had a little look at my router log and its covered by this message thousands of times a min :

sun 08/11/2009 19.39.35s UDP Packet - Source:82.114.89.133,6348 Destination:94.192.167.157,6346 - [DOS]

ran a virus scan and came up nothing

anybody got any idea?

By any chance do you have any P2P stuff running, as that sort of port range is one I would associate with those sort of apps, and if you're instigating hundreds of connections a minute that would possibly explain why the router is bricking itself.

Could just also add a rule to the firewall to deny any communication from that IP.

ahh you've just gave me an idea of what it could be i have not secured my wifi (as a was messing around with it when i was trying to get my mobile online) and i think the guy next door is stealing my internet again ><

thank you very much

i have disabled my wifi for the moment and blocked it seems to be running a lot better now

Most likely your neighbour thrashing your wifi with some P2P apps then, whilst not a DDOS attack some of them will initiate thousands of connections a minute and to a firewall that can look like an attack.

Go into 'attached devices' in your router to see what computers / laptops are connected to it. It should still show up for 24 hrs after disconnection.

it is possible to inadvertently connect to someone elses wifi by mistake if its unsecure and windows in on autmatic connect

unless they are known scumbags give them the benefit of the doubt. If your really hacked of they may have committed a technical offence under Computer Misuse Act

1990 posting something nasty back to them might cause you a legal issue and you cant be sure who would see it (kids, granny, family pet, etc), surely theres more fun to be had than pictures would provide!
