DOS-like window popped up...what was it?

I've just had a DOS-like window pop up for a second or so while online. I've no idea what it was for, which bothers me.

I'm running XP SP2. Is there any way I can find out what opened that window?

I had this happen tonight and it was zonealarm updating.

That sounds promising. How did you find out what it was? I'm not familiar with the event viewer, but I had a look at it and found nothing. Although I might have found something if I knew what I was looking for.

Aye like buachille says it could be just some software on your comp checking for updates. or it could be spyware/virus.

as said, give it a check with a scanner and see what comes up.
otherwise you could always format. that would kill whatever it was..

A bit drastic, methinks

I have the resident parts of AVG and Spybot (Teatimer) running all the time, plus Zone Alarm for the firewall.

BitDefender online scan found no viruses. Sypybot's running a scan now.

I have a thing about not knowing what's going on. It bugs me.
