I have the logitech z-680 speaker system, and I hadn't used my hifi since having these about 4 or 5 months a go. Anyway a few days ago I listerned to my hifi again, and I couldnt believe how bad it sounded, like I always thought my hi-fi sounded pretty good. The quailty in sound was much poorer the my z680s. it sounded much more muffled and not very sharp at all.. I guess its cos my hifi has much larger speakers, so it gives out a lower and deeper sound.

So My question is, dose smaller speakers give a much sharper and clearer sound then big speakers?

In a word, no. I don't know what Hi-Fi you have, but i'm guessing it's a mini-system/all in one type? Otherwise, you must have done something wrong setting it up. A Hi-Fi speaker will normally have a woofer and tweeter. The tweeter takes care of treble/bright sounds with the woofer taking the low. This is similar to a PC speakers satellites and sub. However, virtually any tweeter will have a much clearer and more extended response than the small satellite drivers, which generally have to be cone type construction. Have a look at your tone controls if you have them.

I have a awia xr-m98 with 4 seprates turner, amp, tape and cd. I have 4 denon speakers and they have a tweaters, plus I have 2 eltax 60watt subs to enhance the bass abit

You've determined your PC speakers sound better than your Lo-Fi, which is no suprise.

Just because Hi-Fi speakers are larger doesn't mean they give poorer sound. In fact small satellites usually provide inferior sound quality due to poorer frequency response (generalising here but I think you get my point)

I might sell the speakers and subs and bin the hifi cos its sort of bust anyway, and set my pc and z-680 system in my main room.

Will the z680s still sound good in a room of about 5meters by 3 meters? At the mo there in a room of about 2 meters by 2meters.

Make sure your bass and treble settings aren't boosted on the amp, and that the crossover frequency on your subs isn't set too high (anything over 80Hz will give a boomy sound).
