Dot net 3.0 doesn't install

I want to install Paint.net again but I can't install Dot net 3.0.
It begins to unpack but just hangs here, using 50% of my CPU.
This is on XP Pro with setup below



Any ideas please? I have 1.1 installed but not 2.0 although this shouldn't be necessary
 
I've given up with .NET. I try to install any version, and after awhile v3 does install but Windows Update constantly tells me it is not, and if I download updates for .NET they never install. Rubbish!

Sorry none of that really helps you. If you leave it does it ever complete?
 
You don't need .net 3 for Paint.net. Not yet anyway. .net2 should suffice.

How long did you leave the .net 3 installer for? If its a few mins plus then its deffo hung. Try turning off your av for the install of .net 3. See if that does anything. Also shut down all the other programs and services you aren't using to see if that helps.
 
I always install through windows update, it seems to work better for me using that method, usually listed under optional updates.
 
Cheers for the replies. I tried it 3 times, once I left it 15mins or so with no change, still sucking 50% and requiring a reboot to get rid of the process.

I gave it a go with windows update and it worked! Thanks
It's 50Mb file as opposed to the 2mb d/l so it's a different installer and way of doing things.
