I have 2 workstation pc both have failed to boot or post within a week of each other.

Both power up the fans and drives all spin ect motherboard powers up but no post, neither made any bleeps or noises to indicate a fault, both original bios it came with, keyboard lights up then instantly goes out thereafter no response.

Is this likely to be cpu motherboard or ram failure? what could be the cause?

The first pc which suddenly refused to post (spec in my sig) ocuk been very good in honouring the warrenty confirmed there is a fault on the board but no further details given so awaiting replacement from Asus.

In my haste purchased new components from here to build a Sandybridge backup system it booted several times in one day then next day dead with no post same as Asus motherboard.

SB all on default bios setting ect nothing tweeked atall, however i did notice in cpu-z it frequently went to 4.2ghz with x42 multiplier is that normal? The vcore also appeared to jump around a lot too never past 1.3v is that normal for SB? Temps always reported below 35oc

MSI p67 GD65 b3
I5 2500k
4gb g-skill ripjaw f3-17000cl9d-4gbxl
Zalman performa cpu cooler
Antec 300 case
Corsair 650tx

Am i unlucky or what? rather buy another SB motherboard but which brand has best technical support, bios, updates ect..?

Thanks

The frequency and voltage fluctuating are normal yes, thats the turbo boost kicking in, dont worry
Re the problems, if youre still having them with new board/system Id suggest it might be PSU failing, have you tried a spare one? The fact youve had two systems fail so close together might indicate a power spike or something thats caused some damage to the PSUs

According to Intel website http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=52210
3.7Ghz is max turbo frequency, why the heck was mine turbo upto 4.2Ghz with x42 multiplier on default settings? Is my cpu faulty? should i return that too?

PSU or ram failure was my first assumptions the first system had huge truck sized anti-surge ups battery (no spikes shown on that a led flashes if spikes comes in) the new sandy bridge system was direct to the mains.

Both systems have new corsair psu, tried good quality spare psu too with no joy despite monitors and all other peripherals seem to be unaffected.

I'm reluctant to buy another MSI board, how is Gigabtye or Asrock P67 range?
