double glazing prices

does or has anyone worked in double glazing? if so, do you know anything about their pricing structure. a couple of companies have been pestering me for over 12 months now (and i am in the market tbf but i don't wish to commit yet) and their prices have gone from nearly £3.5k (8 windows, same spec) to now just under £2.5k.
when the first salesman came around to my house last year and told me the price of over £3k, i said that was too much, to which he asked how much i thought was a fair price to which i replied ''about £2.5k'' he then started packing up his things and said ''sir, we wouldn't rent them to you for that price'' (not qute sure what he meant by that)
anyway ff 12months+ later and they've come down £1k. i wont be using them as i don't trust anyone who prices in this way but i was wondering if anyone knew just how much profit they make on these windows?

oh yeh i had that thrown at me too along with a 'discount code'. the more i think about their pitch, i wonder why anyone buys from these people.

when they knocked at my door, they asked if i was the homeowner and whether i lived with gf/wife etc. why do they do this? do they think the sale is easier to push through if there are two people to aim at?
