Double tap on touchpad no longer selecting text

I've had this weird problem lately in Powerpoint and occasionally in other MS software, where double tapping the touchpad to select a word no longer works. It just moves the cursor to wherever I've double tapped. It's surprisingly annoying and time wasting.

I'm on a Surface Pro 4/Windows 10, with all updates installed. Anyone experienced this before and/or knows how I might fix it? I couldn't find the touchpad in Device Manager to uninstall/reinstall drivers.

Is there an icon in system tray for the touchpad? Double tap could be disabled for some reason.

No system tray icon unfortunately.

Sort of figured out the issue. It's to do with how fast I double tap. If I do it too fast it doesn't select the word. If I slow down it selects the word.

I would still like to fix this, but changing double click speed in settings doesn't seem to affect it.
