Afternoon all...

Has anyone around here experienced DoubleTake in any great detail?

I "inherited" what was Server Recovery Option, which then became LiveWire and is now DoubleTake Backup and was asked to do something to improve our DR with it. It had already been purchased when I started so I'm stuck with it.

After huge amounts of trying different versions and endless problems, I eventually implemented something that worked. A single server offsite at the other end of a VPN on ADSL running ESXi. A "target" virtual machine with a 1tb virtual disk stores the replicated data and snapshots, in theory we should be able to recover the server images as VMs on the same physical host. Was tested and was working fine (with a few niggles) for nearly a year, until now.

That is, until it decided to be very helpful and delete jobs at random, without any cause or notice. So away I trot to doubletake support, apparently its a known issue which is fixed in the new version (Backup). I waited for it to come out and set it all up last weekend. Had to uninstall, reboot and reinstall on every server which was a bit of a PITA but I did it and reconfigured all the jobs exactly as they were before, excluding the same temp databases etc.

The environment is exactly the same, but now all the jobs are queueing through the roof, mirrors are sat in single figure percentages - even my domain controller was showing a total replication of about 40gb after about 2 days!

So, has anyone had enough experience of Doubletake to be able to advise? FWIW, if you have, I feel your pain.

For anyone experiencing similar frustrations - it turned out to be the AV. The DT folder needs to be excluded, but they have changed the installation path in the latest versions

You beat me to it on the AV issue.

We use DoubleTake to replicate all our SQL database to DR and with great effect. We have 100+ SQL dbases in production.
