I'm probably hearing this wrongly and being totally stupid thinking it sounds like "douse and a half", when it's actually something else but this has been bugging me for ages.

In a lot of war movies including Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers and even Three Kings they mention something like "A douse and a half" ???

For example, Cpt Miller(Tom Hanks) says: "it was the size of a douse and a half" as he discusses an operation with his commanding officer right after the invasion on the beaches.

Am I getting this wrong? The word is never listed in any of the movie screenplays I've checked out.

Ta.
