Hi guys,

I'm really enjoying the game so far, currently at level 11. I'm looking for hints, tips, strategies etc. Perhaps you guys can add some of your successful teams and strategies to this thread.

Currently I almost always take Cyrus with a sniper rifle when going up against Tyranids. Thaddeus has been left on the bench for a while, but now I've got Thule I need to carefully start choosing who to take on missions.

Anyway, looking forward to your suggestions.

Cheers,

Jed.

Find pack of enemy, fire off long range attack ie Rockets, artillery or even orbital bombardment if you fancy over kill.
Send in jump pack based team or commander to knock them all back and then spray the whole area with your dreadnought with hellfire talented fire arc ability for that master piece finish.
Also Commander and terminator suit is waste time due THQs stupid item design changes with these suits over the power suits.
Also what the hell is with the no base building :( I miss it /cry

basically, this. And hit retreat if you're losing men.

'z' for melee attack and 'x' for retreat can be quite annoying :)

Many a time I have sent my Dreadnought fleeing.

I've just picked up the commander jump pack. Haven't tried it out yet.

Which units do you always take? Which ones always stay on the bench?

hehehe the fact that a dreadnought can flee is most amusing

it should be noted he doesn't repair like the usual people u either have to waste a accessorie slot and carry around his own health packs or upgrade his health to the point where he can go offline and heal himself.

Worth doing as in the end dreadnoughts are cool and his barrage ability does kick ass :D

Give your commander a banner as soon as you can as the rally ability is vital, have ur jump troops up their close combat so that they 1 hurt more and 2 their knockback kills.. they can also kill a lot just by jumping on them, but they are also quite weak so its often best to use them as shock troops, jump in, cause the knockback damage and then retreat them...

I find most of my damage came from avitas with his heavy bolter.. use the focus fire as often as you can

dont be afraid to retreat if anything goes wrong, quite often on the harder difficulties u will find u have to slowly chip away at a huge army instead of charging head first into it

Assault squad with stun grenades worked for me until half way through the game...

...Then my commander became invincible. With a banner commander accessory thingy the healing ability charges up faster than it takes for him to get killed. I did a few missions with just him, though it took an age.

Well that's just stupid. Relic really took the fluff down a dark alley and treated it to some bum love rape this time round.

It isn't that bad :)

I still had lots of fun playing the single player, though I would have preferred a larger scale, 7-8 squads, so you can get a good mixture of tactical/devastator/assault etc. Picking all the wargear is fun and changing what all your troops are equipped with. Though the commander in Terminator armour is a bit disappointing - not enough to give him.

I think any game adhering very strictly to the table top game would take forever to make.

Give Thaddeus terminator armor instead of jetpacks along with a thunderhammer/shield combo. Teleporting in with these guys rocks :)

I also found that I could just complete all the missions with my commander basically. I gave him the teleporter:

1) teleport in
2) smash people up
3) heal
4) smash people up, use battle cry
5) heal
6) win
*) Teleport away if required

It was a bit too easy, no other troops required unless you have a big Hive Tyrant which really needs plasma guns / rocket launchers thrown at it. The game was lots of fun for me but very repetitive tbh. It's a pity as it could have been much better.

My final boss strategy was usually:

1) Have Cyrus' scout squad with the sentry gun ability
2) Deploy some sentry guns whilst cloaked
3) Use other troops to shoot up / melee with boss whilst it concentrates on the sentry guns

Last edited:
Commander: Hammer/power weapons for taking care of Fexes and bosses and a Halo thing.
Tarkus: plasma gun later on, nades are fantastic. and get his squad to vet status.
Avitus: keep him in normal armor, bolter for a while plasma wins for taking out those bloody Eldar d-cannons (due to its long range) and platforms and generally disrupting great swathes of enemies, then get his amazing bolter (3055 ranged dmg with the right gear)
Cyrus: stun grenade and satchel charges work wonders, get him the ability to use acessories without losing stealth, dont underestimate the flamethrower with him. Sniper-rifle is great against nids on normal missions, take out a larger nid and the rest have a little brawl, letting you come in and clean up with less trouble.
Thaddeus: Termie armor, tbh i found him useless until he was in termie armor with teleport.. dude wears sugar paper as armor or something..
Dread: Hellfire etc, get the self repair trait in the health tree if you intend to use him a lot. negates any real need to carry Rites of Repair around.

Above is what me and my mate are kind of doing on co-op on captain.. i think.. the one below primarch

mind you tactics totally change when lower, and i imagine, higher difficulties
