Behind you... Naked!
Ok, I have DOW:SS Activted through Steam.

Trouble is, that I seem to have hit a slight niggle.

The Niggle being that my steam account does not seem to know if I have SoulStorm installed or not, and wants to install it, itself through the internet.

This is over 5GB!

With Dawn Of War 2 also doing the same hting, this makes it well over 11GB that it wants to download.

I know that I should be able to force the use of a Disk by entering

D:\Games\Steam\Steam.exe -install z:

This obviously meaning that my games are in D:\Games\
and my steam stuff in in a folder called STEAM
and that the Drive that I am tryign to intall from is Z:

Now, this command works fine with the genuinne Steam Disks I have, such as Half Life, Half Life 2, Episode One, and they install from the disk rather than the internet, but it does not work with SoulStorm, or Dawn Of War 2

Is there any way that I can either

1 - Force Steam to use the disks

2 - Re-build an ISO to make Steam think that the disks are proper Steam Disks?

Unless i'm mistaken, the retail (DVD) version of soulstorm isn't actually a steam game and means to use it on steam it will have to download it from scratch.

DoW2 on the other hand is a steam game and it should attempt to use the disc for initial install, however the game has been heavily updated since release so maybe that forces it to download instead as the updates would be so much downloading on a clean install anyway.

Maybe worth trying some of the fixes the CoD:MW2 peeps have been using to force steam to use their DVD's (seems to be lots of threads on the matter)

No, you are not mistaken. DOW:SS is not actualyl a steam game, and yes DOW2 is. In fact, Steam kind of stole my DOW2 and added it to my list of Steam games, however, I am in the exact same boast as I am with DOW:SS

The snag here is that I have been waiting for hopurs and hours now, since yesterday in fact and its downloaded ... NOTHING! - its just laying there saying that its starting to download but its doing not a jot.

Now, I can install SoulStorm off the DVD, thats not a problem, however I have hit upon an issue that I cannot get past without some sort of patching?

Here is where I am really really confused, but, I install off the ORIGINAL DVD, and then I try to patch 1.00 to 1.10 and it says that I have an unknown version in?

WHAT?

Now, thats why I am trying to do it the STEAM way.

----

On a side-note, this issue never once came up under XP64 or even Vista64 and it only happened with this Windows 7 install... So, I grabbed my profile, took it upstairs to a PC running XP64, installed SoulStorm off the DVD... Well the ISO off the DVD to be honest, copied my profile back on and the Zoom Engine files ( never bother playing without those ) and I played the game and level and the exact part that has crashed 7 times in a row on the Win7 machine... Funnily enough never crashed under XP64!

Maybe this is just another reason to go back?

I iknow its not Win7's fault directly but I dont get these issues with any other O/S - Even Vista works better for me.... I winder about the XP Mode though?

It should... But it does not. Ignores me every time, but yes, like I said with HL and HL2 Disks its fine?

Dotn think that I have not already been to a trillion of these pages already on this very matter, but I have not yet found a cure other than to go back?

Anyway, Im rushing this reply and I have SS installing on 3 other PCs right now as well as Im installing my spare Win7 licence onto my wifes laptop ( Shes going to kill me ) just to see if I can get around the issue in one way or another with Win7 but if nothing on that lot gets any positives then I will go back.

straw + Camels back and all that!

OFFS!

You see... Thats exactly what I am talking about!

I just closed the broswer windows after telling you how much I hate Win7 etc, and how Steam isnt updating and the bloody window is telling me that its downlaoded and that SoulStorm will be ready to play in an hour!

****** thing!

Ok, well, lets she what happens in a n hour then...

Probably get kicked because half a dozen PCs are all trying to log in to my steam account!!!??!?

Sod's law :P

About the Win7 problems, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if SS had some problems on Win7 since it seemed to me to be rather **** poorly done in general (oddly enough the company that made it went bust around release time...)

Steam is probably just having some heavy load issues with all the MW2 people installing/downloading so fingers crossed.

Company went bust?
Oh Ironlore you mean? Shame that.

Steam having heavy load?
Of course yes, Im so stuck up my own bum sometimes yes, I forgot all about MW2.
Looks great, but I will wait a couple of weeks before I get mine... I will no doubt find a million people sellign of their copies just like they did with every other game thats out there these days, and I will get my copy for a tenner... like 50 or 60 or so of my current games.

LOL

Anyway, I just played SoulStorm... Got to EXACTLY the same place and it failed in EXACTLY the same way... Scar Execution error.

I saved the game a fair few times this time however and so, what I am going to do, is try to by-pass that section, and go around it instead?

Not sure how well you know the game, but Im playing the Imperial guard, and I ma t the Rock Claw Mountains. I have total control of the killy-spot and I have setup a dozen of so turrets and a bunch of Heavy gunners so they dont get too close from the right and from above and I am going down and back up to the right... I get the error just as I kill off Goregutz, or within a few seconds after anyway.

I am using long distance bombardments and the infiltation sattelite from the bases to pick off as much as I can before sending in any soldiers... Seems to be the only tactic that works on hard settings cos I get wiped out otherwise.
