I've had this set-up for a while now, since it was one of the fastest PC's on the market

XP2500-M
NF7-S v2.0
SP-97
92mm fan
Arctic Silver 5
Antec Sonata Case with 1x120mm fan blowing out and 1x120mm fan sucking in.
Enermax Noisetaker 600w PSU
9800pro with Arctic Cooler fitted.

Always run it @ 2.5ghz+ and temps were around 40C under full load. Though in this heat it would have hit 50C I reckon.

Now I'm @ 2.1ghz and it's currently at 57C doing nothing!!

Nothing has changed, there's no massive amounts of dust or anything, what's going on? Reckon my motherboard is lying? Also I've just taken the sides of the case and temps didn't budge at all.

I could understand the temp rise in this heat but not when I've knocked the clock speed down so much, this mobile chip has always been a very cool runner.

Updated your BIOS recently?

Sure it's doing nothing? Check your CPU usage in Task Manager, might have a rogue process.

Heatsink still fitted properly and fan working OK?

I've just change my shuttle fan speed to full after burning my fingers on the drives etc. All this heat... :(

Time to sell the shuttle :( don't know why i bought one again anyway

perhaps your thermal paste/material ahs run out
I've never heard of that before. The AS5 I've got on mine certainly hasn't been on there long enough to 'run out' anyway.

Still using the same Blackmantaray BIOS I always was, best and most stable for this mobo.

It's doing nothing, when I put it under full load the temp rises even higher

My PC is no different from when I had it @ 2.5ghz and running under 40C.

It's not happened at once it's just over the last 2 months I've had to turn my overclock down from 2.5ghz to 2.4ghz then 2.3ghz, 2.2ghz and now 2.1ghz and it looks like I'll have to go even lower... strange.

Could be the weather? I've had to clock my CPU back from 2.8 to 2.7GHz because of the heat :(

Also AS5 only has a certain lifespan, IIRC its best to change it every 6 or so months.

I think I might try reapplying the TIM then and get any dust off the heatsink see if that helps. Currently down to 1.8ghz (9x200) running just 1.4v through it so it's all below stock XP2500-M and it's still at 44C idle! :(

Try another psu and see if it helps at all. You could use that half that wattage and still overclock stably so hopefully you have a spare?

Whats the case temp
