Just looking for some people opinions and experiences from getting rid of their pc and getting a laptop.
MY rig is as follows
6600
680i sli
8800gtx wc
2gb ram
500gb harddrive

Now a change in lifestyle and job also have a baby on the way :D and do a lot of travelling to and from my girlfriend house. Means I have very little time to spend on my pc for gamming. Iv moved more into home cinema and 360/ps3 gamming.

Now are laptops suitable to be left on 24/7 and used for downloading?

Are big portable hard drives suitable to be used as media storage via the laptop? and easy to get the info off?

Would be using the laptop for surfing, downloading email hooking digi cam to it and my k850i phone.

Since I got my latest work laptop (which I've also been able to take home \o/) I've hardly touched my desktop!

It's on all day at work, it gets switched off, taken home, switched on again, and left on all night, switched off to go to work, then switched back on all day (and so on and so on!) - been doing that for ~18 months now :)

I've got a couple of USB portable HDDs at home that I use for storage - one mains-powered with a large 3.5" disk, another with a 60gb 2.5" drive, which is powered wholly by USB - which I carry around with the laptop most of the time :)

I can't see myself going back to having to sit in front of a desk now - the laptop is just so convenient!!

I still have issues about leaving my laptop on continuously, I'm inclined to put it in sleep mode when I'm not going to be using for more than 30 minutes or so. That said I went from a very powerful desktop to just using a laptop, I miss it for games occassionally but thats the only things I miss.

I'm kinda in the opposite boat. I brought a DTR in February (C2D 2ghz, 2gb RAM, 7950GTX GO) and sold my desktop (Opty @2.5ghz, 2gb RAM, 7800GT), and whilst I don't regret the decision, I do miss a desktop!

So much so that I can see me getting a mid range system May/June next year. I just enjoy the tinkering too much :/
