Hi to everyone.
I am having issue's where my system hits 62c and it drops the cpu down to
half speed under prim95 and occt this is all at stock setting with no overclocking applied.
Under prim95 and occt it craps out at around three and a half minutes in to the test.
Also I have a i5 760 that will do the exactly same.
My system is.

Intel core i7 870
Asus P7h55-M
Corsair 8gigs ram
Asus 660ti.

Things I have done to try to stop it are reset the bios flashed the bios from asus with the most up to date bios which was the same one that was on the motherboard already.
thnx

Normally gets up to around 55c to 60c with around a couple of hours game play.
I don't think it has down clocked it self as I would have thought frame rates would have tanked to a unplayable rate
while gaming.
30c while idle.

So you have no throttling issue's when gaming (oc'ed) only when priming I wouldn't say you have an issue then, prime is great but use everyday for testing if its not crashing when doing everyday stuff and gaming your fine :)

The cpu is not overclocked its doing this at stock speeds 2.93GHz then 3.2GHz boost thing
hits 62c in prime and then throttles the cpu just dint think that was normal for stock settings at 62c to throttle its self down.
But thanks for your help.

1/ see if your pump is running e.g. put your finger on it is it vibrating?
2/ reseat the cooler with some fresh paste, making sure to tighten it down evenly

if its doing it at stock then It would seem your cooler isn't up to the job

Every thing is working as it should with the pump that's at full speed witch shows running at 4440rpm also swopped out the cooler and put the stock intel heatsink and fan back on it.
Same results always 62c downclocks its self using with Asus pc probe2 the temps only get's to 45c real temp is showing 62c.

tested with other stress programs?

intel burn test?

think prime does have a rest peried for few seconds till the next worker stress, its not temps it should go above 100c before it throttles

is there an anti surge option in the bios? tried without that enabled?

I have that board but with an i3 540 and it doesn't throttle like that

Just tried it with the anti surge option set to off had the same results still throttles it self down.
Beginning to think there is a issue with the motherboard as it yields the same results when I swop the cpu out for the i5 760 cpu.
Thnx
