Managed to get myself in a tangle with my iPad.
Had updated to IOS5 but have had nothing but problems with it.
I then remembered I had saved a version of 4.X at some point. Managed to work out it was 4.2 so put it on.

However, Itunes is now convinced that is the latest version available and won't even offer me IOS5 now.

What have I messed up?
I have removed the entry in the hosts file used to downgrade.

As I wanted to move away from IOS5 for now not a major issue but I would like to know how to resolve this for future releases!

Incidentally is/was 4.2 a reasonable release?!

Andrew

edit: Oh **** now found three apps not compatible with 4.2! I do like to fiddle.....

Upgrade to 4.3 if you can. From a developer's point of view, it's quite different to 4.2 in its behaviour so a lot of new apps only support 4.3 and up.

I'm sure you'll be able to find the ipsw file on the internet somewhere.

If you just download the IPSW file for whatever version you need, Just shift/cmd? (Depending on windows/mac) click on restore and it will let you pick that IOS file you just downloaded.

I have 4.3.1 and 4.3.3 I had tried both of these using the manual restore option and it either just fails the authentication with an unknown error or states the device is not elligible for this version.
I have tried with and without the modded hosts file too.

I should stop fiddling :o
