Downgrading to 560 Ti?

So I've been having problems with artifacts, crashing, BSOD, etc for a while now and I've pretty much narrowed the problem down to my 570.

I've replaced PSU, upgraded to i5-2500k, Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 and 8GB ram, tried different drivers, etc to no avail.

The card is out of warranty now, so I dont think i can RMA it. So I was going to get a new GPU because I'm so fed up with the current one.

Tbh, I don't really want to spend loads of money on the same card, and the 580 is too expensive, plus the 7000/600 series coming out soonish. So I was thinking of buying the cheaper 560 Ti now, so that I can actually play games, and maybe upgrade to the new series in a few months (or SLI).

Is this a stupid idea, should I just buy a 570/580 now? Would the performance drop be really noticeable? I was going to go for the Asus 560 Ti Direct CU II and overclock.

I'm mainly playing SWtOR atm, and maybe some BF3, at 1080p. I'm not too fussy about running at ultra-high settings, etc, just as long as the game looks reasonably well.

For your 570, probably worth removing the cooler and refitting with some new paste.

Otherwise a 560Ti will offer similar performance with a little OC.

Think cuda units x frequency as a rough guide, 915Mhz should be about parity (11% oc)

A 2GB 560TI should allow ultra @ > 40fps and high >55fps in BF3 so easily capable of a good experience.

I have a pair of OCUK Palit cards, both are good for 950Mhz at 1.050V (+.050), I haven't tried higher yet as I need to sort out the case cooling as the default design doesn't exhaust the heat from the case directly.

Thanks, I decided to go with the OCUK 2GB Palit 560 Ti. I'd actually already ordered the Asus DirectCU II 1GB version, but getting the 2 GB version for £10 more with the 5% Xmas discount seemed a steal.

LOL! I stuck the 570 in the oven to see if this "fix" would work, and low and behold it did! It's working again without artifacts, BSOD, etc. But from what I've read it might only be temporary, so I'll hold onto the new card for a while just in case.

MSI only cover for 3 years if bought after 1st January 2011. I bought mine December 2010. I thought the warranty was only a year before they changed it?

It's reliable enough for indication.

Roughly cuda units x frequency will give you the performance though it can't account for extreme settings when memory limitations or bus widths kick in though to be fair it's not in the GPU manufactures interest to make fast cards with crippled memory as they would be poorly rated

So apparently my 570 is still in warranty as I was able to get a RMA number for it. Only problem is, it seems to be working again! Assuming the oven fix is only temporary, should I wait until it starts artifacting again before returning it?

I'm also a little worried because sometimes the problem can be sporadic, so it might not appear during their testing?
