Ok well after only ever getting an average of 20kbs out of bit comet whilst trying to download anything a mate of mine suggested I got myself a download accelerator and join a news group. Well last night I downloaded said accelerator and he let me access his news group account so I could test it out. I managed to possibly get an episode of "something" in about 20 mins and my download speed was something like 300kbs.

Cue very happy Knip!

My question is will this download accelerator cause me any problems either with my puter (due to the high speed) or with Pipex. Im on an up to 8 meg connection but only ever get about 3 and a half. Will they suddenly start wondering how and why I am downloading so much faster, and am I allowed to? As in will I get into trouble for doing this.

I need to subscribe to the news group so before I start coughing up the moulah I just wanted to ask peoples opinions as the advice ive had here in the past has always been very good.
(and this is all hypothetical and I wouldnt consider doing anything illegal anyway)

No, keep doing it, eventually they'll get annoyed and kick you off, then you can find a proper ISP. :p ;)

Try a test on the newsgroups without this 'accelerator' and see what you get, also, remove said incriminating illegal activities. :)

As long as you stay below your monthly bandwidth allowance they don't care.

What news group are you signing up with and what client are you using to download, if i may ask?

Peace

I am on an 8 mb connection with no download limit (will they put one on then once they see im nicking all the bandwidth - I could say it was back payments in bandwidth for 3 months of crap service :D )

The one I looked at last night was easynews, dont know what client it was using to download it just opened up the download within the accelerator and then I unzipped it from there.

Problem is that most ISP have a so called unlimited account but they have a FUP and if they believe you use too much bandwidth they will throttle your connection and you will receive a warning email.

As long as you don't download day & night 24/7 i believe you won't have a problem but i would check out the FUP from Pipex which should give you more info about thier on/off peak times.....

Btw, i use newshosting and newsleecher.

Wouldn't worry about Pipex' FUP too much tbh. I believe they've bought Freedom 2 Surf (My ISP) and these are my last few months...

Personally i find Download Accelerator to be useless, especially if your on a Newsgroup.
Well I was chuffed going from 8 hours at least to download "something" to under half an hour.
Mustnt grumble. :)

Do you have any idea how much I would need to stay under to stay out of trouble? (just in case)

Until they email you I spose. If you do go over the FUP, ISP's usually give you a warning first.
You will really have to kick the Ar$e out of it though for them to did this.
