Download folder problem

ok just got in from work and went to look at some files in my download folder on the dock, now i can see them in there but when i try and open the folder its self nothing happens ie right click>open downloads or left click>open in finder, nothing happens when i open the folder up from the users folder i can get access its just not happening from the dock, any ideas ??? i have restarted and repaired permissions with no joy

ok looks like i have other problems

1 can not empty trash
2 double clicking on hard drives on the desktop does nothing
wtf is going on here


edit: sorted it by deleting a couple of new programs that were installed over past few days, saves me having to do a clean install lol
