Download game sites

I want to buy a game from either d2d or GamersGate. Can i download the games from both these sites without having to run seperate download software? Like GoG or do they need something to be installed like Steam?

d2d you dont NEED their software, but people have had issues using the browers download manager. but with D2D they dont require the app to run the game, so can easily be uninstalled after download and backup of game files.

The d2d downloader is I think the same as the fileplanet one, it's not intrusive and you don't need it once the game is installed. Just remove it from your startups, or uninstall completely.
No idea about GamersGate.

Gamers gate use a downloader but once you've installed it launch's independently at least in the case of red faction guerrilla. I don't think they use a manager but the publishers ma have their own systems in other cases.
