Download Manager

Is there a Download Manager or such for Mac so that if I started downloading something I can resume it at a later date?

Dunno.. if there isn't one I'd like to know because I want to get my teeth into a meaty software development project on the Mac.

I've tried Speed download which worked well and looks polished but it had to many features for what I needed. Plus it took every download and if I'm just downloading a quick file I want Safari to do it.

I've recently downloaded Download Queue which integrates nicely with Safari. Now I can download single files in Safari and if I want to download something in parts or have a queue of items I add them to Download Queue.

Plus you can set Download Queue to quit and put the mac to sleep after it's finished which is good for through the night downloading.

Safari itself can do this. Things are saved as a .download file until they are complete. You can quit out of Safari and just double click the .download file to resume it later.

I can never resume in Safari at all always starts all over again

There's a few Firefox plugins that will do it.
