Effectively, if im on 20mb/s internet, surely all downloads should be close to this?

Or am i missing something? Clueless when it comes to download speeds :p

This question is better off in the internet forum.

but a few factors to consider,

distance from the exchange

peak time usage cap

bits vs bytes

20Mbps is 2MBps, and it depends on the site. do a speedtest to see what your getting. as You are on an upto 20Mbps, not a guaranteed 20Mbps, but a lot of sites limit dl speed to like 500kbps

Also the download speeds will depend on the upload speed of the server you're downloading from

Exactly. It's like having a fast car and being stuck in rush hour, it doesn't matter how fast it is, you can't do any more than 5mph. Something is only as strong as it's weakest link. Okay, philosophical analogies aside.

20Mbps is actually 2.5MBps. Note "B" = Byte "b" = bit

It is also rated as "upto" so you won't always get 20Mbps. Check your router stats to see what your line is syncing at.

If your syncing at 14000kbps, that will equate to a max download speed of 1.4MBps.

Like mentioned earlier it will also depend on who you are downloading from. 1.4 is simply the max.

Sick in your post code or phone number it should give you your max download speed depending on your distance from your exchange.

Never believe what your ISP tells you do the checks first before you buy.

What ISP are we talking about?

Most ISP's will have you run a training period to get the max speed for your connection. Normally around 10 days?

Posting your router stats may help and having it moved to the right forum would help you.

Good luck.
