Hello,
Bit of a noob, just wondering:
http://www.speedtest.net/ says my download speed is 5.03 mb/s, but the highest i ever get using Rapidshare premium is about 700 kb/s, is there a specific reason for this, and how could i speed it up. I use flashget as for my downloads aswell.
Thanks

You're mixing bits and bytes. The speedtest result is in bits (mbps) and the Rapidshare download is in bytes (KB/s). There are 8 bits in a byte, so your Rapidshare downloads are running faster than the speedtest result.

Ah right, this is my result, does this concur with what you were saying. Thats alright then :) Thanks

Also, why is upload so poor?

If your ISP is BT, your upload rate's probably 448kbps which makes your Speedtest result maybe a touch slow but not disastrously so.

same, im on 20meg virgin and i constantly get ridiculous speed test results... etc:

Speedtest sites are highly inaccurate. Its better to download a file from http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/ and see your speed in there.

I think the result is pretty accurate as long as no other program in the background using the bandwidth..
heres mine atm

edit: omg, just saw Ryan111's post... lol
I think something is terribly wrong there :p

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't your upload speed of 9.62mb/s  a bit out of sorts also. :p

Yeah, I know about my upload speed... but it seems to be no bs, lol
I really do get that speeds uploading photo's etc. however, It varies on a day to day basis.. it ranges from 2mbps-10mbps. I am happy with it either way :D

It's ask4, an ethernet service available in a few developments in places like Leeds and Sheffield. It's not ADSL or cable.

I got a profile reset today, it was going at around 6.5MBit this morning.

That's when it's not busy dying or putting me on a profile of 100KBit. BT are crap when it comes to that kind of thing.

BT suck, if you get 6.5 through BT, id expect you would get allot more, especially in the upload, through O2 or Be. If your exchange is LLU of course...

Our BT connection has gone down to 0.35mbps up and down for the last week nearly now - cannot work out what is going on - and the BT speedtester doesn't recognise our phone number anymore so can't check the IP profile!

Hate calling BT :(
