Download Windows XP Pro OEM (Dell Flavor)

Hi

Does anyone know if you can download from a proper source (i.e. Microsoft) a Windows XP Pro OEM disk? I want to format my Dell laptop and put Pro back on using the code on the base, but dont have the disks?

Also, are Dell laptops limited to Dell disks? I know it works the other way (i.e. Dell disks only work with Dell keys).

If you can prove you have a license I think Microsoft will send out a CD for £5 or so. :)

Not sure if a Dell key will work with a normal copy though, think you'd need a corporate/multi license copy :(
 
Ive got the laptop with the sticker on the bottem and everything, but ordering a cd key is just hassle. I recently re-formatted a mates laptop to XP Home using an OEM disk, it was an Acer, and it worked fine. Its just I got that disk from a torrent and its quite difficult to find a clean one you can trust.

Ive got a supposedly clean Dell OEM XP Pro disk downloading... we shall see....
 
To be honest, why are you looking for a "Dell Flavour"disk when you are legally allowed to have a "Normal" edition and bunk in your CD Keys from under your laptop?

It's also nice to explore other user's nLite flavours, some are extremely small and nippy and others are filled with open source applications for your ease of use without having to download and install them one by one (i.e. Firefox, Thunderbird, Open Office, Picasa2...)

Just bunk in your CD key and viola~
 
The hard part is getting a hold of the right version for your key,

Apart from the obvious home/pro/mce, there are volume licence editions, OEM, retail, pre-SP, Sp1, SP2 and SP3

To add to that early SP2 keys don't work with later SP2 discs!

Good luck in finding a copy that will with with your key, i never managed for my Acer laptop....
 
My dad bought a Dimension desktop from Dell and he bought it when they were not sending out restore disks....not even the drivers!

I went onto Online support (got them to phone me - I don't like premium rate phone lines :p) and they shipped the disks to him within 4 working days.

Would one of the XP Pro CDs that comes bundled with new Dell laptops (well, used to anyway) be of use to you? I've still got friends at my old place of work and at one time we had about 100 of the damn things stuffed into a drawer for safe-keeping.

Doesn't come with any registration information, as it expects you to obtain that from the Microsoft tag on the laptop, but it's a full XP Pro CD and not a Dell specific one.
