HI,

had to download a java addon to enable me to d/l some software, and it shows as <filename>-rpm.bin, how do i go about installing it ?

checked and the chmod -x command that the install instructions say might be needed cannot find the file.

i'm in the directory where it was d/l to (Desktop) and logged in as root to make sure access isnt a problem .

thanks.....

comes back with the message :
bash: ./jre-6ul-linux-i586-rpm.bin: No such file or directory

this is the process i went through:

[markpitchford@localhost Desktop]$ su
Password:
[root@localhost Desktop]# ls jre*
jre-6u1-linux-i586-rpm.bin
[root@localhost Desktop]# ./jre-6ul-linux-i586-rpm.bin

What OS? Gnome or KDE?

on mine

make it executable

right click the file
select properties
select permissions
then tick allow executing

that site was the official java site, if that dont work then your in trouble.

EDIT:

i just tested my installation which definately works and i got the error message too.

tried reinstalling and it seems to install fine, no errors come up on screen or anything but the test still does not display what the site says it should :(.

doesnt on mine but it works flawlessly here. Dunno why that is.
Test it on a 3rd party site.
