Hi so I just got my mac today and when I install lets say utorrent and open it, an icon appears on the desktop and just stays there, to get rid of it I have to press eject utorrent, anyone know why its there and how to stop it from appearing?

Thank you

What you're opening isn't actually the program itself but a mountable disk drive with the program on it.

What you need to do it copy the utorrent.app from the mounted disk into your applications folder and that way it will be on your physical hard drive, rather than a mounted disk drive.

Installing applications is a little bit different to Windows. Check the sticky for more info.

Get away from uTorrent too. Transmission is a much better (more polished) app.

I'm not so sure about that. Granted Transmission is more polished, but I prefer the new uTorrent app. It has a few minor annoyances but is pretty good overall. I always find Transmission seems to slow my computer down a bit.

Transmission + Automatic = RSS downloading.

uTorrent is still a bit too young (on OS X) for my liking.

I prefer uTorrent to Transmission, seems to run a lot better for me and is nice and simple for my needs - needless to say I rarely ever use it though.
