I have a Dell machine which i dont use much anymore, so i would like to know if Linux would be ok on there, plus if someone can provide me with the direct download link as when i go onto the linux site, i cant find the right thing :S

You're confusing Kubuntu, a version of Ubuntu that used the K desktop environment, with Xubuntu, a version that uses the extremely fast xfce environment.

As for your main question, .Kencs, a Linux operating system is not one thing, it's a collection of hundreds or thousands of individual packages that are lashed together with an installer to form a Linux distribution. There are hundreds of distros, but you can concern yourself with only the big players. I recommend Ubuntu, it's what I use. You might also want to try OpenSuSE.

thanks mate. i have never used it before. is it easy to use?

kewl, i've downloaded the .iso file now so will put that on the dell tomorrow...il let u know if it went thru the computer room window too :D lol

cheers all

Right, I'm about to put Linux on the Dell PC, BUT....I can't find a single blank CD anyway...and can't be bothered to go to the shop...Can i install it WITHOUT putting it on CD?
