Downloads stop 1 sec short of complete

Perfectly legal stuff (evaluation of Vmware) I've tried to download 3 times now and it keeps stopping with 1 second to complete.

Good d/l speed @ 838kb sec so around ten minutes a time. The dialogue box says 499mb of 499mb copied but just freezes despite the flying file thingy carrying on.

Not had this sort of thing for a very long time and can't remember the cause though someone said something about the file not transfering from temp to destination being the reason; I have no idea.

Vista Ultimate SP1 with IE8.
 
How long have you waited after the freeze? I get this on my Vista machine with Eset, the freeze is due to it needing to scan the file once it's completed. If you've waited ages then it could be a proxy caching problem, I get this at work with the crap work proxies, if the download fails to complete for whatever reason then when you try and download it again the proxy server thinks it's already got a copy to offer you which is incomplete. For this I generally change proxy server or try again a day later.
