Been a while since I built or upgraded my PC but will be reorganising my available space soon and really need to downsize. I currently have GA-Z170-Gaming K3/I5 6600K, so should I ditch oth CPU and mobo or just swap the motherboard for something MATX and if so what are your suggestions. My current set up also has a 1080 GPU and Avexir Core Blue Series 16GB.

Personally id just switch Motherboard, The 6600k is still a decent CPU and im sure will be for a while... Atleast youll save a few £££ with it being an older board

depends on what case you want to get. personally, i don't see the point...
most matx cases (at least the decent airflow ones, or the ones that allow decent cooling) aren't that much smaller than midi atx towers.
i mean if you want to waste spend some money then go ahead of course :p
but you might find that the "space" savings isn't as great as you'd hoped - the space saving is more of the height than width/depth in most cases (haha pun).

better to swap form factors when you're doing a full cpu/board/case overhaul.
6600k is decent, but the only upgrade you have is 6700k/7700k - and with new 8c/12c/16c parts coming out "soon (tm)" you might find yourself upgrading in the not too distant future.

In footprint terms most ATX and MATX cases in tower format aren't really that different, I have ITX cases that take up the same space as MATX and more than some ATX cases, you'll spend a not insignificant amount of money (case+board at a minimum) to have the same performance that you have now taking up a very similar footprint, either go ITX if you need to, or at least upgrade rather than side-grade.

You can get some nice compact mATX cases (I have one). But mATX motherboard choices seem to be getting fewer and fewer with each generation (and is especially bad on the AMD platform). I would say stick with ATX or go ITX if you can work with the restrictions that brings.

Thanks all I have changed my mind on the route to go so will say thanks and post another question.
