Downsizing to go 3D

I currently own a Dell u2711 27" (2560x1440) monitor. And im thinking of getting the Benq XL2420T 24" (1920x1080) monitor. My pc is basically a gaming machine with web surfing aswell. So i want the best gaming monitor with 3D and 120mhz. I wont be playing all my games in 3D so i want to know will the 120mhz make me not miss my 2560x1440 res monitor.
Is the picture quality very good, is it better than my Dell monitor, will i really notice a difference?

I know 120mhz shines in fps games. But whats it like in third person games or rts, do you notice the difference in that too?

So 27" but still the res 1920 x 1080, why aint it 2560x1440?

How does 1920x1080 res work on a 27" then, wont that look odd?
