on the stats page for the router it used to read 2272up/288 down line rate and 30/31db for the down/upstream margin
that was a 2mb fixed line rate package

have moved to an 'up to 8mb' package and now get...

now shows 8128/448 for the line rate, and 12db/27db for the margins

should the downstream margin have dropped that much ?

getting about 5-6 Mbps download and 0.37Mbps upload
also pingtest.net results are slower now by about 10ms, is this likely to improve ?

Yes. Your SNR margin and sync rate vary inversely with each other.

I wouldn't rely on speedtest.net as any useful measure of your connection. If you're seeing increased latency overall, though, you should probably check interleaving isn't enabled.

it now says Interleaved in the stats page on the router, used to say FAST

this is with BT Total Broadband, sure I read before that it wasn't possible to have Interleaving turned off but (unknown to me) it must have been turned off when I was on the 2mb fixed rate package

is there any point trying to get BT to turn it back to the way it was or will that be impossible because it's now an 'up to 8mb' package ?

There wasn't any option but off on fixed rate. BT Wholesale certainly will turn it off, but you have to get your ISP to ask them to do it.

cheers...BT is the ISP in this case, need to try find a specific number or email address as I can imagine calling the call centre and trying to explain what I wanted :D

yeah I know what you mean, just I thought I had read before that BT Yahoo/Bt Total Broadband couldnt/wouldnt turn off Interleaving

I didnt bother contacting them to get it done when I was on the 2mb line because I thought they couldnt, but I didn't realise it was already turned off anyway!
