DPC Watchdog Violation error on my new laptop (Windows 8)

Bought an Acer Aspire E1-571 a week ago. A few days in it locked up and restarted with these errors..

c:\users\joe\appdata\local\temp\WER-47046-0.sysdata.xml

c:\windows\memory.dmp

Same thing happened today with the error 'DPC Watchdog Violation'.

Did a brief google search and appears to be a Windows 8 issue, but god knows.

Any ideas?

Could be a lot of things.
Have you installed anything new, drivers, software,hardware? (if you have remove them)
Does anything show up in event log?

Try running a chkdsk with full scan
Also run a memory check
Update any drivers that old
Run windows update

You could also try a system restore back to before it started if you've not disabled it.

I installed anti malwarebytes when I first purchased. That's all. I did read having more than 1 anti virus can cause problems so I've uninstalled mcafee which was already on.

Ill do what you said and post results.

Did it bluescreen when it locked up?

If so can you run this: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

Then let us know the most recent error.

Have you installed any software/hardware, specifically just before the problems started?

Also, try disabling all bar the windows stuff on startup;

Press winkey+r, type msconfig.exe and hit run.

In there go to the services tab, tick 'hide all microsoft services' and then hit disable all. Now untick 'hide all microsoft services' and hit apply.

Now press ctrl+shift+esc, press more details in the bottom right hand corner and then head to Start-up. Disable everything in there and restart. If you stop getting the errors then something on startup isn't working as it should and it'll be a process of elimination.

Like I said, just Anti-Malarebytes. I've since uninstalled McAfee so Anti-Malwarebytes is my only anti virus.

I downloaded the program you suggested and here's the latest error.

Hmmm... It's a bit generic unfortunately. Are you doing anything specific when the computer crashes, opening a particular program for example, or is it just random?

Also, spoiler that third post, I hate people who post logs like that, my scroll finger gets tired quickly. :mad:

Not really. I had quite a few windows open but nothing major. Maybe it overheated?

Thanks for the spoiler tags, sorry I didn't mean to come across so aggressive about it, more tongue in cheek. It was mainly a result of the other forums I was taking a look around where the posters kept quoting the same error logs again and again and again :/

Anyway, I don't think I've found anything too useful, some people seem to think it could be overclock related but it's a laptop so I can't see that being an issue.

There's a hotfix for DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION (133) here which might be worth applying. It says Server 2012 but should be applicable to Windows 8 x64.

Have you tried disabling all but the Microsoft stuff to see if you're still getting the error?
