DPD collection problem

Hi guys,

So I purchased a sound bar that was delivered by DPD within the one hour window that they provide, no problem there. Unfortunately the remote did not work so I contacted the retailer and they sent a replacement remote again via DPD which arrived in the one hour window. This didn't solve the remote issue so retailer arranged collection with DPD for refund or replacement.

This is where the problem begins. They were supposed to collect on Thursday, they sent a text saying collection between 9.30 and 10.30, they didn't show up so replied to the text message with the option to change collection to today, they sent a message again saying collection between 9.30 and 10.30, I looked out of the window to make sure I wouldn't miss them, saw a DPD van go up the main road but didn't turn into my street so the item is still uncollected.

So what is going on here? I have had deliveries from DPD numerous times and never had an issue and held them in high regard because of this but I have never had a collection arranged with them before.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Sorry for the long post!

Yeah i would talk to the retailer.

To be fair, DPD are actually one of the best of the bunch. Obviously it is all driver dependant but some couriers are stricter than others when it comes to the standards for delivery. I now work for a firm that deals in trade, mail-order, retail and internet order and one of my jobs as the IT guy is to deal with the couriers. We have gone through pretty much all of them the last ten years and going by delivery statistics DPD stick out as the most reliable for time and package condition, with Yodel being by far the worst. Seems anecdotal but when you ship a few hundred a day over years, then i suppose that sample is considered high enough to draw some conclusions from.

Also have a word with DPD.

I think I will need to get the collection reference number or something from the retailer or do you think name, address and collection time will be enough for DPD to look into it?

Yes DPD have been flawless for me in terms of delivery but this is my first experience of them collecting and I have been left quite disappointed. Yodel have always been problematic for me to the point I try my best to avoid places that use them where possible!

Yes, I might ask them to use another courier as DPD have really annoyed me, seeing the van just drive straight past is taking the ****!

DPD drivers have set delivery/collection schedules so even though you saw the van it a) may not have been the van that was supposed to have collected your parcel and b) may not have been your turn yet.

we get the DPD guy in here at work every day, its amusing watching the map of the parcel tracking as he drives past several times through the day yet the delivery window can be 3-4pm.

in your case though something seem to have gone wrong. everyone is human, maybe the driver didnt get instruction to come to you or just plain forgot.

They can change that route though if they know a quicker way.

they cannot change the order of what package is delivered/collected however. the order is worked out by computer which is how they work out the delivery slot times that get emailed/texted.

I avoid Yodel like the plague after they rammed this package (containing M.2) through my letter box so they wouldn't have to take it back with them. DPD are miles ahead.

The first time I was not really bothered as it could have just been a simple mistake but the second time it gets a little annoying as I will now have to be here a third time and its just inconvenient. I am sure it will be sorted in the end its just a hassle I could do without.

Yeah there was the story about a package being thrown on a roof, not sure if true?!

By the way, have you tried calling DPD?

I saw that, if it was true I would not be surprised at all to be honest!

Not yet, I have emailed the retailer in the hope they can give me a reference number for the collection so I can give that to DPD for them to look into.

Ok I think that's probably the best way to go. You might even have success with giving DPD your name and address, not sure if they need the reference. Depends how much of a rush you're in.

I have just received a reply from the retailer and they said they will chase it up for me. I will update when I hear back from them. :)

I've only ever had one problem with DPD, and that was when they were due to deliver something to me but they buzzed wrong set of flats (there's two blocks very close to each other and there's two number 6's). I knew something was up as I was watching out the window and the van drove right past.

I checked the webpage and the driver had taken a photo of the door buzzers, but obviously for the wrong set of flats. I DM'd DPD on Twitter about it, they got back to me straight away and rearranged the delivery for the next day (which was a Saturday).

That's not bad in my book.

Fingers crossed :)

Thanks mate!

They are generally very good, probably the best all things considered. I think my experience is a rare exception but it is just my luck to be the one with problems :o

For deliveries I was sent a link where you could track the van etc it said something like 'Gary is delivering parcel 66, your are number 74'. This wasn't the case with collection, just a text message with a one hour slot.
