Hey,

Having a hideous computing day, with everything going wrong. Latest is that my PC starts up, but when it gets to the windows XP logo the monitor switches off.

Message on screen is "DPMS Off mode"

Monitor is a Viewsonic CRT

PC keeps running.

Have rechecked all connections.

Any suggestions?

PLEASE HELP!

Sounds like the resolution/refresh rate has changed and is invalid for the monitor. Try going into windows in VGA mode (press F8 after POST but before Windows loading screen). Then change the resolution and refresh rate back to a valid setting for the monitor.

The PC goes into windows mode in VGA settings, but as soon as you try to increase resolution in the control panel settings the DPMS off mode thing comes back.......

Are there settings somewhere for the graphics card?

Could this have resulted from using a flatscreen in one place, and an older CRT in another?

Cheers
