I remember there being a group buy on here many moons ago.

Is the stuff any good? Looking to do some stone chips touch ups with something a little better/easier than an ordinary brush kit.

Cheers :)

Not used either Dr Colorchip or Chipex, but Chipex is supposed to be fairly good.

If you search for chipex on the forums there are a few mentions and some photos in the "what have you done to your car today" thread.

Yeah, I find the Chipex kits pretty decent, Iv'e now got 3 of them (I always buy one on getting a new car) and just ordered another for the Mrs new car.

There is still a bit of skill needed to get the best out of it, and some patience required to fill deep chips or sometimes even shallow scratches, but it's so easy to 'un-do' should you mess up that it allows you to mess around and experiment,. but considering how fussy I am, I'd rate them 8/10 which is far better than my DIY attempts using a paint/laquer touch up kit which I'd rate at 2/10.

Being a 13 year old black car with its original paint, the front bumper and bonnet on mine have a good few stone chips. While a respray of the front end would no doubt be the best option, right now it's a cost I can't justify.

Was looking at chipex, what's your opinion on them repairing stone chips? I expect it won't look perfect, but anything will look better than the light gray primer patches against the black paint!

I've had pretty good success. most of it is down to technique, I used a combination of just dabbing it paint and using the finishing solution to knock it back, through to using a little squeegee to fill them in, or just using a finger to smear paint across a larger area..

However, I've tried it on my 13 year old M3 which has suffered just a few stone chips on the front bumper over that time and whilst OK to look at from a few feet away, get close and it's pretty obvious it's chipped to hell and back.. but for the price, it's worth a shot! The squeegee method to 'fill in' the chips works well for this kind of damage.

Indeed, taken a punt on it anyway for £35 and a couple of hours of my time. Will try one small section first and if it's decent enough, will do the lot.

I don't expect it to be perfect, but as I said light grey spots where you can see primer look pretty terrible against the black paint. At least if they're a similar colour it'll be less noticeable to others.
