Dragon Age: Origins

Fantastic game, 38 hours in on the 360 and near the end with a lot of the side quests done :) Looking forward to Mass Effect 2 and hope its of the same quality.

So what's this like on PS3 compared to PC then? I need a new long-story game to get immersed in. The last one was Fallout 3.

Taken from the Eurogamer comparison: "In an age where PC versions of cross-format games are held back by the technological limitations of the consoles, Dragon Age: Origins is a breath of fresh air.

Graphically speaking, it's much better than both console builds. Curiously, the PC version's .ini files even include resolution settings, suggesting that the textures on PS3 and Xbox 360 are just 25 per cent of the size compared to the PC build when it's running in "high" mode. As you can see from the comparison gallery, the cutbacks to texture quality on both console builds have been quite severe."

It also mentions the PS3 version's performance dipping towards the 15fps mark at times.

So yeah, it's massively, gapingly pwned by the PC.

completed this yesterday on PS3 and must say with all the drawbacks from the PC version that are mentioned countless times its still one hell of a game.

took me 46 hours to complete doing the majority of the side quests and ive enjoyed it a lot.

id like to play through again as a different race and class but im unsure wether to hold on to it or not with FFXIII round the corner and a few more games to complete first it may go in trade towards heavy rain... and also another 46 hours is a long time to play.

lol 46 hours! Took me 98 hours on the PC. I would minus 5 for pauses (the timer keeps going) but still. I must have really explored a lot; no stone left un-turned.

98 hours?

I think I've already posted in the PC section that it took low thirties to complete first time round with having done most of the side quests.
I dont think I've missed 50 hours worth of content.

My play time on the pc was around 86 hours :).

Whichever platform works best for you.

I personally fancied it on a console and bought the PS3 version. It's acceptable, horrible graphics and style (the blood stains on the characters are ridiculous) in comparison to something like Demon's Souls, but none the less acceptable.

In summary:
  • Best PC - nicer textures, graphics, frame rate, use of mouse and keyboard really suits the game and includes the tactical view for 'a zoomed' view of the fights - not in the console versions.
  • Then either of the PS3 or 360, which have to us a 'radial control system'. PS3 includes nicer textures, graphics but suffers with the framerate, whereas the 360 version, although the weakest graphics of the three versions, has a more stable framerate than the PS3 version.

Eurogamer will have more in-depth comparison.

Remember you can get 3 free in-game items on any version by playing DA:O Journeys Flash/Browser game via their website (OK for a flash game, passed the time and took me about 3 hours to get these items) and if you create a character via the PC Character Creator you get a ring which adds +1 to all attributes. You only need to login/play on your EA profile for both of these for the free items to register as DLC. And then depending on whether you get the collectors or normal version then affects whether you get an extra 3 in-game items. The DA:O website will list the differences.

I completed the ps3 version yesterday - just under 60 hours with dlc, really enjoyed it - on my 2nd play-through now, though I expect to do it in much less time :) Didn't notice any frame-rate issues on the ps3, I imagine the pc version is definitely the one to get though - especially as it has a toolset :)

I'm really struggling to get into this game. I admit I've only done the escape from the castle bit at the beginning, but it's a bit slow moving. Am at the stage where I'm close to not putting it back in the PS3!!

I assume it picks up a fair bit from here?

once you've completed the opening story (different for each race ive only done 'scum' dwarf) it definatly gets a lot better

it took me a while to get into it fully but once i was after the first few hours i was hooked

When my characters die and pick up injuries, it's not letting me use my injury kits from my inventory. Halp?

Completed the main story (Dwarf Noble) in a 3 day rental. :D

What better way to spend your time when ill? :p

Really enjoyed it. May buy it so I can continue with the DLC and Awakening.

Still not been able to play this :(

I got rid of my 360. My PC, by all accounts a single core wont handle it. So I'm screwed. Looks so good! I love Bioware, they're the best development team in existence if you ask me

My game has bugged out and left me stuck in the Orphanage in the Alienage. Was rinsing it on Nightmare difficulty as well, now just stuck in one room with two locked doors and a blind Templar.
