Just a quick question i am doing my first play through of dragon age. I have done the opening missions and quests. I decided to goto the mages cricle first, cause i am a mage :P

With me being a mage i decide to use a guide so i dont miss anything important in terms of plot and side quests in the tower.

the first side quest i came to was the summoning one in the libary, what shocked me is how little indication theres was that it was a side quest and how hard it was to find even with the guide.

According to the guide the books i needed should have being sparkling, but they wasnt.

So my question is, are all the side quests so cryptic and hidden or is there a problem with my game, i dont wanna use a guide all the way through because of the spoilers. I really dont wanna play with a guide but then again i dont want to miss everything.

In games like this you'll find it more fun just to go and play.Your character may not be the best or whatever but its more fun to just stubble on something awesome!!! Then afterwards follow a guide and see whats out you missed :)

So my game isnt broken then? :) Your all properly right i just hate knowing i might be missing stuff, but it will make me explore more.

Will ask another question then, my 2nd play through what race, class and spec i should go. I played a warrior human breifly as a tank and found that a bit borring compaired to mage, all thought i did like the opening story for human warrior.

I've done a human warrior, currently playing as an Elf Arcane Warrior and I'm going to try some sort of dual wielding knife rogue next. A pure damage based mage is on my list as well.

Thinking dual wielding drawf would be cool, whats best as dual wielders rouges or warriors?

Dragon Age is the kind of game (for me at least) that gets better with subsequent plays. Play through once get a feel for the mechanics. Then go for a '100%' playthrough, with a guide if you wish, maybe a new class/role/different party makeup, the second time through. It is an awesome game altogether.

It depends really, rogues are better suited to being sneaky backstabbers (I think their class specializations are more fun as well), while warriors are better pure damage dealers. I think rogues are more fun to play personally.

As rogue you can go lock-pick/stealth (not ever used stealth though) which means you don't need to keep another rogue in your squad on lock-picking duty, so you can be more diverse in your squad rota.

Up to you though really! :D

The sparkling was only from loot items and chests, etc.

I think the default key is control, that highlights everything useable around your character. By giving it a label and white surround of item. It's amazing how much you miss unless you use the feature.

 Not one of the side quests I did were cryptic or hidden and I did every single one I could get my hands on/find.

Ah thanks :) this will help me no end. Its tab by default. I was worried i would miss all the items and clickable stuff.

I guess cryptic was the wrong word, but the summoning quest in the libary for example i would have missed all that if it wasnt for the guide. Since the book that starts the quest is just like the 100's of others in the room, but with the tab thing its a lot easier :)

I have just gone back through the tower and missed loads of notes and stuff one of which was a quest.

Glad i found this out before now rather then later thanks a lot ! :)

Yeah someone has mentioned this but i played most of the game holding down the shift or control key, can't rember which, but the key puts text above interactable objects in a sense highlighting them. I found this 1 of the very few flaws in the game, should be a way to have it always on so u don't miss anything.

Yeah mage tower is a good start place, mainly because get access to unlimited reagents to make mana pots at the end. This is incredibly usefull for a mage early on.

I stocked up on 200 or so pots :)

I knew about the tab key highting npcs and stuff like that i didnt know it did the site for clickable items and stuff, untill now :)

I cant understand why it isnt on all the time or there isnt a option for it at least, maybe is it make the game harder for those who want it.

I think the reason it is not 'allways on' is because it can detract from the graphics. But the biggest issue is you are not told. I got mine on steam so no manual and i played half way through the game until i found it.

I still have not given it a second play through. I played the game with no guide to get no spoilers, but read up on it after completing it. I did fairly well (played 62 hours and found most things) but missed a few biggies! Need more time to play it again... and i am not even working atm lol.

The summoning quest is one of the more cryptic quests. You'd have to be a codex reader to work it out really, if I remember right.

Nothing major lost in all honesty, it's just nice for people who do read more to get stuff back.
