I know the usual thought that your drain plug should be the lowest point in the loop but I've run into a problem where I cannot do this due to case design and internal layout.

I can the drain plug beneath the reservoir level but it will be just above the pump. Will syphon action using a drain pipe take care of the rest?

I remember having to drain a fuel tank many years ago. As long as I kept the end of the drain pipe below the fluid level, syphon action took care of it.....or most of it anyway.

Accepting a little case tipping may be required will having the drain point between the pump and the res be OK?

Well the drain plug can of course go anywhere and achieve OK results, ie. There may be some pockets that, as you say, may require case tipping to clear out.

My own drain port is just below my res but not at the lowest most point in the loop and it is quite a pain to drain the entire loop but the port does at least help get the majority out without to much fuss.
