I've got a mates focus dumped on my drive now, it's got cooling system issues and as such it's now just got straight water in it. It's supposed to drop to -4 tonight which could be a problem. Is there a drain plug on the engine block? It's a mk1 1.6 btw.

He dosent need all of it out, it doesnt need to be anywhere near 100% antifreeze in there.

He doesnt have the keys to the car, so he cant put antifreeze in it. Thus the only way to stop the water from freezing is to drain it out

Just chuck a full 5l of antifreeze in there it'll mix well enough.

Oh yea, no keys.

Find the bloody keys then or jemmy bar the bonnet open

Bottom rad hose will only empty the rad, not the block. Ideally need to have the thermostat out of it as well

Gotcha. Don't know of a coolant drain on the Zetec so bottom rad hose it is.... assuming you can get to it.

Yes that's easy, it will drain enough to stop it freezing in the block?

The stat housing is leaking like **** anyway, that's why it's dumped here.

Has it suddenly been filled up with water or something as it's been colder than this only a week ago, any damage will have been done by now surely?

No block will freeze but you'll give somewhere for the ice to go. Still a risk of cracking but much less than a full system. Especially as the block usually freezes last
