If your wanting to upgrade gpu is it a big job to drain ? Do you have to drain the full System ? I have never done water cooling but been reading more and more about it hoping to incorporate it into my next build when I have the funds
This is the beauty of core only blocks. Simply unbolt the block from the old card, clean the tim off, put tim on new card, bolt on block and away you go. No draining needed.
1: Place a jug or something under the GFX card.
2: Undo one of the blanking ports on the GPU block (if you connected the in and out to the bottom your screwed).
3: When it's stopped dripping out undo the lid on the reservoir, more will come out.
4: When that stops replace the reservoir lid.
5: Disconnect the GPU block hoses and point them into the jug.
6: Remove old GPU.
7: Install new GPU.
8: Connect hoses to new GPU.
9: Top up coolant just like when you built the loop.
10: Done.
I would just make sure that I have a drain valve at the lowest point of my loop. it makes things way easier and reduces the risk of damaging components when you take the loop apart. you can find them for less than £5 and they make it look more "professional"
Take your time and the work is done for you. Drain most of the liquid out of the loop and then go to work or something. By the time you come back the GPU should be dry enough to disconnect, obviously with caution and paper towels too.
