Hi all,

Got my new graphics card coming tomorrow so I need to drain and strip my system down today. I plan on putting the system back on air and testing the new gpu for at least two weeks before watercooling again. I have had my system watercooled for 3 years, cpu and gpu. I wanted to do it much sooner before now but haven't had the chance. Will it be ok to let the rad / pump dry naturally and then deal with them in a couple of weeks or should I start cleaning them right away.

Do I even need to clean the pump as it's attached to the xspc res so don't want to start unscrewing it if I don't need too. I have used bi-distilled water, corrosion blocker fluid and a silver kill coil and the water still looks as clear as the day I put it in.

Any help would be much appreciated.

RoEy

letting them dry naturally will be fine, in terms of cleaning what id do is cut up an old piece of tubing and setup a small loop with some plain distilled water with a couple of table spoons of distilling vinigar, pump and res to rad with a fan or 2 then back to res run it for a few hours to a day or 2 off a spare psu draining and replacing the water if it looks mucky, slightly acidic water looping into all the parts will work muck better than you with a tooth brush, might even be worth dropping the blocks on it too to make sure they clean up

The one being listed on OCUK website says the manufacturing code is 11197-01-40G, which is a reference PCB. I've seen a few videos where the same card has been water-cooled and it's even on EK's cooling config site labelled as a ref pcb. Plus, I've found other sources that state it's a ref pcb. However, that's the card I thought I was purchasing but OCUK have sent me a different card - Manufacture code 11197-03-40G, 2 8+8 pin and blue pcb, which isn't a reference pcb. So I'm calling them after I finish work today. Not happy at all, because I've already order the heat killer for it and looking elsewhere I can't find the card and places I have seen it have it for 50-60 pounds more. I just hope OCUK have some in stock, if not I want some sort of compensation for them advertising goods falsely.

Hi Stuie,

I plan on doing what you said over the weekend. Where can I get the distilled vinegar from? Can I use deionised water instead as I already have a few tubs of that. Will using destilled vinegar on things like my pump really be ok, I'm thinking about the o-ring and plastic res. How many times should I flush it all after to make sure there arent any traces of vinegar left? I'm setting up a loop next to my computer as the radiator, res/pumpthat sit in the bottom of my case and are fixed to some mounting blocks so don't really want to pull it to bits. Thats why what you said appeals to me so I can just leave it to clean itself pretty much.

When i posted that i did read that a couple of drops is ok, since ive also read mixed reports it could be a bad thing if left for a prolonged time, seems to be mixed as to if you should or shouldnt i dont know im new to this to lol.
Just a few runs on distilled water should be fine if using clear water and res you should be able to tell easily if its getting dirty or not. Set a loop up with a load of plain distilled if leaving it for a while id also stick a fan or 2 on as well as even without any chip heat the pump itself will get warm although mine managed to stay cool overnight hooked up to a 280 and 420
If you do want to run with some vinegar you should be able to get some from tesco or somewhere, Ive also read a few drops of bleach in the loop helps to clear and staining too but again not 100% sure on what that would do over a long period of time to rubber gaskets

Yeah I'm not so sure about the whole vinegar thing. I can't see my parts being that dirty as the water I took out after 3 years was pretty much as clear as the day it went in. I'll look further into the whole cleaning process before doing anything.
