DRAM/FSB setting

Hi,

I'm currently in the process of overclocking my Opty and noticed in CPU-Z the DRAM/FSB setting is at CPU/15. What exactly does this mean?

Also, the memory frequency is 173.9mhz and mem timings are as follows:

Cas Latency : 2.5
Ras to Cas latency : 3
Ras Precharge : 3
Cycle Time : 6
Bank cycle Time 16
DRAM IDle Timer : 16

I haven't messed with these so I presume they are quite slack timings. I guess what I want is for the memory to run synch with the processor. Is this possible? If so what settings in the bios do I change?

Cheers for looking in

Dave

Also, I have set the voltage in the bios to 1.485 but in CPU-Z it's showing 1.520 (though this fluctuates slightly). Which reading should i trust?

to be honest i dont have a clue!

How do I change the settings for the Ram on my motherboard? I couldn't see anything, unless I'm being totally thick?

in the memory timings section of the bios should be able to see somthing like mem clock with somthing possibly like an option of limit rather that auto, switch to auto. this will give you access to the divider on the ram. you can set the divider to split the speed the ram runs compared to the fsb of the cpu. eg 1:1 = same speed, etc etc. and you can calc what divider you need to get the ram to run faster. But if you set the divider too close to the cpu fsb it can make it unstable so you just back it off to the next level down and see if u can up the fsb a little bit.

confused now.

There are settings in the bios to run the ram at different speeds. Auto, and then 200mhz, 233, 266, 300, 333 etc... are these the ones I need?

I'm currently at 260FSB at the moment and Ideally would like to run my ram synch with that, on bootup it says my ram is running 266mhz. Is this incorrect?

no your ram is on the 266 divider, so if your fsb were 200 (400DDR) then your mem woulld be 133mhz (266DDR)

those settings are not speeds, they are dividers and show the speed that the ram would be if your htt were at stock

ok, let me try and work this out.

400mhz would be what I use if the opty were at stock and i wanted to run 1:1.

I'm running 260fsb so presumably want to run the ram at double this? 533mhz?

cheers mate. Very helpful.

Will select that when I get in and see what CPU-Z says. I'm wondering whether it's actually capable of running 533mhz.... :|
