Hi. I'm utterly useless at most things Photoshop. So I was hoping someone could help me out with something I'm sure is very, very simple

I have an image. Underneath I would like to draw a rectangle of the same size, and then split this rectangle up into a further three of four sections of equal size.

How would I go about drawing the equal size boxes underneath, and then selecting only the needed parts to apply colour. Here is an example of what I am trying to do.

Thanks

To be honest, I'd just hit ctrl + n and set the canvas to the size I want and then cut and paste it in.

The correct answer though would be to set guidelines and then draw the squares accordingly.

If all the smaller squares are an equal size, just create one of them and then duplicate the layer 7 times (ctrl+j). Then reposition each layer and apply colours. Black border can be applied with the Stroke style for each layer.

I'd do the same, put rather than stokes I'd have the boxes the fixed size just with colour and a solid background colour behind. That gives you more control than using stokes.

Id rather us illustrator , but you can do it simply with the pen tool, and add the black stroke to the selected lines

Again, this is another I recommend, just to add though use the square shape tool as opposed to free hand drawing.
