Hi all,

Working in support for an ISP, have been asked to get details on these two Routers to update our Product Catalogue.

Service Support Manager wants to know the physical hardware differences and no amount of searching is throwing up the answers.

Need to know if the Intel/Lantiq chipset's are the same on both units and also if the CPU's are physically the same and the only discerning difference is software limitations for VPN etc.

Thanks,
Shawrey

The CPU's must be quite similar as the gap in performance isn't huge:

2762
Firewall: Up to 300Mb/s max
IPSec VPN: Up to 60Mb/s max
NAT Sessions: 50,000

2862
Firewall: Up to 400Mb/s max
IPSec VPN: Up to 60Mb/s max
NAT Sessions: 60,000

Also in the Openreach approved modem list they both have the same chipset. I think the main difference might be RAM.

Have you asked DrayTek?

Those two routers have markedly different feature sets even before you start worrying about what chipset they're running.

Will contact Draytek and find out. I am aware of some of the feature set differences mainly around VPN etc.

I would guess this is why my Service Support Manager wants clarification as on paper the basic stats seem much of a muchness and not much other documentation exists - if any.

Ta,

28xx series will do dual WAN load balancing, 27xx just do basic failover. That's the most fundamental difference.
