Draytek or Netgear?

I need two routers, one is in my room, and one is in another room, using different internet connections :)

Upgrading from a BT Home Hub...

Draytek 2800V, is this a good router? I had the previous version, the 2600, was great! Anyone have any experiences?

Another option:

I already have one of these in another location, apart from not having a modem with it :@...

This netgear has a modem with it :)
So what do you guys recommend?

Thanks.

I'm using a Netgear DG834N on my Be* connection (ADSL2) and it hasn't put a foot wrong! I get far better connection stability using this over Be's own router and far better sync speeds, the wireless is also top notch!

Well I'll probably get a netgear as their admin menus are so much sophisticated and easier to use, well... Netgear for me :D

Thanks for the reply btw.

Well I have a Linkskys WRT54G and I don't like it, the admin menu is really crap, and you have to have a modem...

I'm more into all in one type things, BUT, Cisco now owns Linksys, so eh....

I really need some decent wireless routers 'cos the house is pretty large, and I can just buy some 802.11n cards for the laptops and PC's.

Got any Linksys recommendations?

Cheers,

am using the WRT300N at the moment, nice bit of kit

I also had a WRT54G and i quite like it also. You can run custom firmware on them if its just the UI that bothers you

Another vote for Netgear here also, although I am using a cable version, the Admin control panel options are excellent. I have it for hardwire through out my house, but I patched my neighbours comp to mine via the wireless. Again the router hasnt put a foot wrong. Plus my neighbour is more than happy with the wireless option, he games and browses a lot.

Although I have been toying with the idea of using the eletrical wire supply for networking, it just seem to make more sense of using existing wiring and removing m cat5 cabling, even though I made a decent enough job of hiding it. Leccy networking would suit my needs as much as the cat5. Plus make all me rooms accesable. From what I seen, guys using it have no complaints using it here.

Hope that helps a little.

Thanks all, it's probably 2 Netgears for the win! :D

Thanks for the comments on the routers etc.

Have any of you got any 802.11n cards? Are they good quality? Get good reception?

Thanks once again :)

Me too. I've used D-Link, Netgear and a few generic routers over the years and my 2600 Vigor is faultless :) Best overall package IMHO.

Still using my Draytek 2600VG and it's great :D

Will be replacing it shortly though (With a Cisco 1841 once I'm happy with the config) ;)

Cisco have owned Linksys for getting on for four years, that's like pointing out walkers crisps now come in foil bags :p Draytek imho. The WRT54G is actually one hell of a router once you flash it to a 3rd party firmware, but then again if you are only after it looking nice I think you missed the point about Function > Eye Candy.

Nah man, I'm looking for a decent router, I don't really care about what it looks like [reasonable though].

'Cos the Draytek looks dull still :P
Meh, I'm probably going to get the Draytek :D

Is it a doddle to setup? Anyone on BT broadband here, do you need the password and login to use the internet?

Actually, I was thinking, what about this router?Linksys WRT350N

Get a draytek, my virgor 2900 rocks. never ever going back to netgear or the likes again.

Function over style always.

Netgear while a good router cant compair to a draytek, though if you have a DSL max based line make sure you update the firware with the 2800's as there is a known bug with the older firmwares (mainly because the router was out before bt rolled out DSL max).

lol that always works get both (its always good to have a spare because if you ever have a fault with your broadband you can rule out everything on your side easily before you contact your isp).
