I would like to purchase a Draytek. I am looking for anybody on this board who has anything Draytek and if they are happy with it.

I plan to buy this one: DrayTek Vigor 2860 AC

I am planning on using it with BT, standard adsl for the moment.

Thanks :)

Rock solid, fast, no carp or buggy firmware, being able to admin into it without hanging about or freezing, able to work and hold on a long dsl line etc.

:)

They're solid and reliable.

The WAN-LAN performance tends to be fairly low. Check the specs if you plan to use anything beyond ADSL/VDSL.

They've never been known for their wireless performance but I haven't tried a very recent model. I buy the wires only versions and install separate access points.

They're an expensive choice if you don't need the feature set.

It's a lot of cash to spend for an ADSL line. If you need tweakable long line performance then there are likely to be better options, I just have no idea what they are since I haven't touched ADSL for probably five years.

I have a Draytek 2860n, its solid as a rock, more features than the average home user will ever need.

WiFi - i live in an extended 4 bed house, I have my Wifi power at just 10%, i get wifi everywhere including back garden. If I set WiFi at 100% then i can connect down the road! Its so good I set it at just 10% power and save electric. Its a total myth Drayteks have poor WiFi range!

We use it at work, 2830s and 2860s. The 2830 is usually for ADSL connections while the 2860 is used at the main office, although the 2860 is not the ac version but the n-plus version. Wireless range is very good and there are quite a few options to tweak your ADSL settings. The web UI works pretty smoothly as well. Unlike the BT hubs, when rebooting the Draytek is very fast in reconnecting to the internet.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the 2830 will goto 90Mb without QOS, much lower if this is enabled. The 2860 around 170Mb I believe without QOS. For small offices the AC versions are nice, for medium/large offices that don't require VPN's (Cisco ASA), non wireless 2860's with ubiquity access points are the way to go. As the 2860 supports both ADSL2+ and VDSL on WAN1, it works great. I've also tested the LTE version of the 2860 with a 3 4G sim and 40+ wireless clients, couldn't fault it.

I have a 2820 which I am tempted to reinstate as the plusnet hub one won't let me change the IP range. I know it's a old router but it's still solid, does anyone know if this will support my 70-75mb fibre connection? The wan port is 100mb.
