Dreaded Norton

Hi,

I am thinking of removing norton 2006 from a system at work cuz a) it conflicts when networking i.e. does not let the other networked pc connect to it and b) is conflicting with other devices on pc...

I was thinking of replacing it with AVG7.0 however bit curious because I am not sure whether AVG7.0 is capable of protecting all my works files and databases etc???

Please advise comments

Norton doesnt catch all the viruses either. If I remember only mks-vir caught all the viruses in that massive test.

Used it all year with no probs at all.
I also use the following;
Ad Aware SE
Spybot S&D
Ewido
Spyblaster
XP Anti Spy
Windows Firewall.

All free all good.

AVG 7.1 Free edition is very good - it was recently rated 4 out of 5 in Computer Shopper magazine while Norton AntiVirus 2006 got 3/5!

Avast got 1/5!

Best thing about AVG is that it is very light on system resource, simple to use and does scan and find viruses in my outlook express.

Kaspersky is the best mate, if you do a search in this section you'll find some good reccommendations. Kaspersky is the most secure on the market though, of that there's no doubt.

Avast uses the Kaspersky engine but is free so it is a no brainer and as for only getting 1 out of 5, I suspect the author of the report had an agenda because there is no way that Avast could ever be considered that poor, far from it.

When don't AV reviewers have an agenda nowadays, or just suffer from pee-poor reviewing? Personal Computing World gave Norton Internet Security 2006 5/5 stars and editors choice this month... no mention of ACTUAL VIRUS TESTING anywhere to be seen. It's like they just read a press release and said "ooohh we'll base our review on this".

Poor.

Also consider Nod32. You do have to pay for it, not sure how much but it has a very good detection rate and scores quite high in tests.
