So its been about 14 years and we still have no decent remakes of games such as Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia so I am about to dust-down the Dreamcast.

I really cant be bothered to mess about with my main TV set-up, plus I bet these consoles look awful on modern televisions so I was hoping that maybe one of you OCUK gamers have already tackled this issue previously. I noticed that I can buy VGA cables for the Dreamcast, this might be the perfect solution for me? has anyone else got this set-up going? I am not sure how sound would work even if picture does?

Any advice is welcomed guys, what source are you using for your old consoles?

Cheers.

Bought a VGA box for mine, VGA from the box to the monitor then mine had a 3.5mm socket for sound which goes to whatever speakers I want. Much better picture than using it on a TV, but lightguns won't work with it apparently.

I have a VGA Box for mine, used it back in the day and still works great with my monitors. The IQ is as good as will get on the monitor(which is quite decent!).

The model of mine is 'Hais'

The box just plugs into the back of your Dreamcast, and has display ports for VGA, A/V & S Video, and an additional 3.5 port for audio.

I'm not sure how a straight DC->VGA cable would work, unless there is a little box on the cable with audio out ports.

The Toro DC VGA Box looks to be probably the best VGA solution for Dreamcast currently available:

If you search for AdamKoralik on youtube he recently did a video on it and also featured a bunch of other VGA boxes he owns. Don't bother with the straight DC->VGA cable though, they're basically junk.

Remember skies of arcadia came out on gamecube, so easiest to play on a BC wii thru component (I think the game is fairly expensive mind)

great, thanks for the response. I will let you know how I get on with this!

I have been itching to go back and play Shenmue for ages, its a Christmas game for me :D

It works the same as the box but obviously doesn't have the switching ability (an issue for certain games which refuse to work in VGA mode).

I run a "VGA adaptor" I got from Amazon in an orange / white box. No idea on the brand but it is grey with a switch on top.

Picture quality is incredible compared to any other input method. Texture quality aside certain games still look fantastic even today.
